Rediscover yourself in Thailand

After a breakup, it can be hard to remember who you are, without the other person. It might be a new haircut or new clothes, but we try to reinvent ourselves into this newly single person. But a popular solution is to get away for a while and rediscover the best version of yourself.

This trip has been especially designed for those of you who are at that point in your life where you don’t know what you're doing, or to heal a recently broken heart. It can help you to find yourself (cliche but true) by pushing you out of your comfort zone and helping you out of your shell to interact with new people, take on completely new challenges; while being able to experience the most amazing parts of Thailand.

Each week will be completely different. 

  1. First you’ll lose yourself in Thai Kickboxing
  2. Then strengthen your body & mind with beach yoga, 
  3. and learn the art of meditation with Monks
  4. and finally heal your soul by volunteering & caring for rescued Elephants. Elephants fix everything!

Week 1: Let off Some Steam With Thai Boxing

We all know that exercise is good for you, it releases endorphins that actually makes you happy! Many studies have examined the ability of exercise to reduce symptoms of depression, and overwhelmingly these studies have described a positive benefit from exercise. It also energises you, boosts confidence and is a great way to get out that stress!

Dopamine (which makes you happy) is linked to achieving a goal or target, so after a week of thai boxing, you’ll not only be looking good, but feeling it too! #breakuprevenge

  • The program is led by a provincial champion and he will not go easy on you!
  • During this program, you will leave your accomodation in the early morning (around 5.30 or 6am)
  • After a 30 minute run for warm up, you will train for two hours led by our experienced Thai Boxing trainer. Thai boxers usually start very early in the day to benefit from the coolness of the morning. 
  • After your morning shift, you will head back to your accommodation to have breakfast and relax for a few hours. In the afternoon, you will return to the boxing school for another session!


Week 2 & 3: Heal the Mind with Yoga & Thai Buddhism

Learn from experts in healing techniques of yoga and meditation to have a healthy body and sound mind. Meditation is the art of focusing on your mind, retraining your thoughts and looking deep into yourself. Practising it can give you a better understanding of your purpose in life and get you back on track, as well as providing you with physical and mental benefits.

  • Your body deserves a break from all that Thai Boxing! 
  • You will be be guided through meditation and yoga exercises with an experienced yoga instructor, all on beautiful surrounding beaches!
  • Yoga is an ancient teaching used to ease the body and the mind through a series of poses called asanas that improve the health of each and every organ as well as creating muscular strength and the ability to focus and concentrate on essentials like the breathe.
  • Now that your body is stronger, it’s time to work on your mind. A significant element of Buddhist tradition is being capable of “Mindfulness”. Mindfulness is the awareness of our present moment—thoughts, feelings, sensations. It’s about accepting our current state of being without allowing our minds to drift away.
  • You’ll experience Thai Buddhism guided by local monks. You will sleep in an authentic monastery, practice meditation and learn Buddhism in its purest form.

Those who have recently gone through a breakup do not tend to have the ability to be mindful as we are so overcome with emotion. We become reactive instead of mindfully present. Although it may be difficult to combine the two, it is possible. This is the perfect way to really start the healing process.

 

Week 4: Feel Good by Giving Back

Elephants Fix Everything!

Volunteering is good for your soul and it’s been clinically proven to improve your health and happiness. Studies have shown the positive emotional impact of volunteering. Hormones like serotonin, oxytocin, endorphins and dopamine can be released when you see a positive impact from a good deed. 

Your final week will be spent volunteering at an Elephant Sanctuary where old, sick, disabled, previously abused or illegally-owned elephants now call a home. Volunteering has been clinically proven to be good for your health with 96% of people reporting that volunteering enriched their sense of purpose in life.

  • Here, we work for the elephants, not the other way around. 
  • This means there will be no elephant riding in the program. 
  • However, you will get the chance to experience and bond with these gentle giants by swimming with them, bathing them and preparing their food, which typically comes in the form of Bana grass, sugarcane and banana plants.
  • The elephants freely roam around the sanctuary by day, and then are taken to the forest in the early evening.
  • You will be spending time alongside experienced mahouts, who invest their entire lives gaining an understanding of the elephants and how best to care for them.


Sharpen Your Mind by Meeting New People

Meeting new people has a range of benefits and taking a trip like this will get you meeting people from different backgrounds.  It will help distract you, meeting people and socialising, you even could learn something new and get a better understanding of life!

It creates a sense of connectedness, and can improve your mental and physical health and enhance your sense of self. When you get out of your comfort zone you strengthen your personal identity and increase your confidence.

  • Meals (three meals a day during the week) and then breakfast & dinner on the weekends (as people usually go out for lunch together).

  • Assistance with your transfers & back to the airport - you’ll most likely just have to pay for the bus fare in between projects & back to the airport which are super cheap and most likely with other travellers.
