Volunteer in Sri Lanka

We have a few different volunteer options in Sri Lanka.

All projects include:

  • Airport pickup and dropoff
  • Dedicated volunteer housing with WiFi (shared rooms) 
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner all days except Sundays 
  • Guaranteed project placement
  • Experienced bilingual operations team on the ground
  • 24/7 local emergency support
  • Volunteering participation certificate
  • Local transportation to projects

  • One yoga class per week
  • Monthly bike tour around paddy fields
  • Monthly local cooking class 

Transfers on Arrival

You will be met at the airport. Volunteers are always met by someone carrying a name sign. 

Orientation

You will  have an induction to the country and area where you will be living. 

This generally includes:

  • A Welcome Pack with details of the local office and other volunteers, maps, and other useful information (such as banks, doctors, and public transport).
  • A tour of the area on local tuktuks or by foot
  • A culture presentation so local norms and practices are clear to all volunteers.

 

Local staff support:

Our partners Sri Lanka in-country support is unparalleled. Every single project area has a Program Manager assigned and paid members of staff who are all locals from the area. They are trained in country to follow best practice procedures, including monitoring, security, and emergency procedures. 

During the first week local staff are always around to ensure everything is going well. After the first week, volunteers vary in the amount of contact that they need with local staff; however, our partners actively check on the status of every volunteer daily - through direct contact. Staff are also available during the day at the office and by phone.

Accommodation

Accommodation is clean, hygienic, and comfortable and regularly checked for suitability. Kitchen facilities and western style shared bathrooms. There is also a ‘chill out’ area for volunteers and a dining table set up.

Supervisors

Each volunteer, regardless of whether on a Teaching, Turtles, Conservation, is allocated a supervisor. The supervisor is not only responsible for enabling volunteers to carry out their work, but also for ensuring that they are happy and assisting with any problems or concerns.
