Planning your OE?  Welcome to International Working Holidays

The Wild Mustang Rescue Project Accommodation and Photos

This project is so cool it needs more than one page.

Accommodation is very cool - your home away from home

Good to Know

All volunteers rotate house chores (cleaning, cooking), and we have a volunteer coordinator already assigned to manage housekeeping (bed, laundry) and new volunteer orientations.

Every volunteer has a day off on either Sunday or Monday every week. There are two groups. One group does the chores on Sunday, and the other does the chores on Monday. There will sometimes be off site activities scheduled for the days off, such as beach trips, kayaking, shopping, etc. These days are also when you can plan trips on your own, such as Universal or Disney.

Volunteers are welcome to plan special outings either on their own, or as a group. However, our ranch is located in a very remote area, so public transportation is not available. The project does have a transport team available to volunteers, for a fee. The amount of the fee will depend upon the distance and how many volunteers are involved. If for some reason our transport team is not available, there are local Uber services that can be used.

The project will do their best to accommodate dietary restrictions (such as vegetarian) in the daily meals that they provide, and they always have plenty of fresh fruits/vegetables available. However, if you want special snacks, or have very specific dietary needs, such as vegan and/or gluten free, you may need to provide some of your own food, which can be purchased on our frequent grocery shopping days in town. You will be given a storage shelf and a refrigerator section for any personal items that you purchase.

Personal Items to Bring:

  • Backpack / rucksack (for excursions)
  • Toiletries
  • Cell phone/charger
  • Travel size laundry detergent (Washer/Dryer is provided.)
  • Small medical kit
  • Sunscreen/Mosquito repellent
  • Antibacterial hand sanitiser (does not need water to rinse off)

Bed linens and bath towels will be provided.

Clothing to Bring:

  • Walking shoes, trainers, or sneakers (You must bring shoes that cover the feet fully.)
  • Mud boots and riding boots, if you have them. (Volunteers may borrow from our collection of boots; however, we cannot guarantee the sizes or condition of the boots that we will have available.)
  • Sandals or flip flops
  • A hat to protect you from the sun
  • T-shirts, tank tops, long sleeved shirts, shorts, long pants, beachwear, and sleepwear
  • Jacket, rain coat, and warm coat (in the winter)
  • Working gloves (like gardening gloves)

Three meals a day and accommodation are included during your entire stay. In the morning it will be a normal style breakfast where you prepare your own bread with spreads. For the Afternoon usually sandwiches that you can prepare for yourself and for the evenings a hot meal will be eaten together.  Vegetarians are catered for as best as possible but vegans, and gluten free volunteers will need to supplement their own requirements personally if needed. Trips to the store are regular to enable this.

The project is located near the east coast of Florida locked between forests, lagoons and the Ocean with incredible sand beaches! There are many opportunities to ride horse, go wildlife watching or visit the beach and Disney World!

There will be activities scheduled such as beach trips, kayaking, rodeos, festivals, fundraising events, etc with the volunteers and if you are interested, you can arrange transportation to Orlando for activities on their free days. The project is in a remote area so there is no public transport easily available. The project splits the volunteers up over the weekend on the chores, 1/2 does chores on Saturday, the other 1/2 does chores on Sunday, that way each group has a day off.

What to bring

  • Check the temperatures before you come but it can get quite hot but we do advise long sleeve cotton tops to protect yourself from the sun in the summer.
  • Make sure you bring clothes that are ok to get dirty.
  • Sunscreen and a first aid kit.
  • Comfortable walking shoes are essential, and you should also pack a raincoat. Riding gear is provided.
