  •     What do I need to apply?

    • You need to be a full time tertiary student (course needs to be 12+ months) or a recent tertiary graduate (last 12 months) from a full time course - online courses are not accepted.
    • You need to hold a current NZ or Australian passport
    • Please contact us with a brief background on any qualifications you hold and work experience to confirm that you will be accepted into the programme if you are unsure. 

    • In order to qualify as a graduate or current student you will need to meet the following criteria:
    •  Hold a NZ or Australian passport.
    • Be a bona fide student or recent tertiary graduate. To be considered a bona fide post-secondary student, the potential participant must have completed his/her first year. 
    • A recent graduate is defined as an Australian or New Zealand citizen who has graduated from a post-secondary college/university in their home country within the last 12 months. The applicant must provide evidence of student status.
    • Vocational students pursuing studies at a tertiary level accredited educational institution are eligible for participation.
    • Applicants must provide proof of sufficient financial resources, prior to coming to the United States, to support themselves during a search for employment or between breaks in employment.
    • Here's the criteria fine print from the US State Department
    • Be a citizen of New Zealand or Australia
    • Be a bona fide post-secondary student or recent graduate. The potential participant must have completed his or her freshman (first) year. 
    • A recent graduate is defined as a New Zealand/Australian citizen who has graduated from a (post-secondary) college/university in their home country within the last 12 months. The applicant must provide evidence of student status.
    • Vocational students pursuing studies at a tertiary level accredited educational institution are eligible for participation.
    • For New Zealand and Australian citizens travelling to the United States, this program will operate under the current Exchange Visitor Program Summer Work Travel regulations and in accordance with the guidelines provided to each designated sponsor. 
    • Please note, we have seen students with a majority of online coursework be denied in the past, although the NZ embassy does not mention it in requirements above.

    How much will it cost?

    We have outlined all the potential and compulsory costs for you so you know how much to budget for: 

    Pricing for the Work and Travel USA programme:
    Programme fees and third party costs: 
    • Sponsorship + Insurance = $1950NZ plus $35US SEVIS fee
    • Sponsorship + Insurance + Prearranged Resort Job = $2200NZ plus $35US SEVIS fee
    • Visa processing fee paid to US Consulate at time of visa application - $160US 
    *All participants must purchase the full 12 months of insurance, regardless of how long they are going to the USA for. 

    Other costs to consider: 

    • Flights from Auckland to Colorado Springs approx $2300 return and Utah $2000 return approximately
    • J1 Visa application fee - US$160 (subject to change at any time) paid directly to the US Consulate. 
    • You must have an interview at the Auckland office therefore you will need to cover your transport costs to obtain your visa.
    • SEVIS Visa fee US$35 for security screening by the Department of State
    • Insurance upgrade should you need it from $5 a day
