Lift Attendant - Rockies Resort, BC

Location Details

This placement is located in British Columbia’s Rocky Mountains, about 2.5 hours West of Calgary and 1.5 hours from Banff and 18 kilometres up the road from Invermere. Invermere itself is home to 3,000 full time residents and is one of the last non-touristy spots in The Rockies and home to a great lake in the summer. Up the hill are about 6 restaurants, 2 bars and some other outlet stores that service the mountain. Down in Invermere there are a few bars and restaurants as well as a large grocery store, banks and other usual stores.

Placement Description

In winter, which starts about December 5th, this placement is at a family mountain resort with three high speed chair lifts catering to all level of skier with 4000 vertical feet of terrain and 700 acres of back country skiing. It has many excellent gentle slopes as well as many off piste’ bowls and valleys for the more advanced skier and snowboarder. The resort also has a very friendly Pedestrian Village, several pools, hot-tubs, 2 bars and 6 restaurants.

In Summer the resort caters to golfers, at Grey-wolf golf course, mountain bikers, hikers, and special events like weddings and conferences. The season ends around about the second week of April and this will be notified later however you MUST be able to stay until the end of the season and cannot leave early.

There are about 400 staff in winter and this drops to about 30 staff at the end of the winter season, lifting up to about 70 at the start of the golf season in mid May and then up to about 150 for the mountain bike season in July – September and then down to about 70 again in October and November until the start of the winter season again. The resort only offers seasonal jobs and then at the end of each season you can apply for work for the following season. In winter there is a free bus running up and down the mountain from the village to Invermere which takes about 25 minutes.

Accommodation

 

The hotel only has about 120 staff accommodation beds so the rest of the staff find their own accommodation either up the mountain or down in Invermere. To secure a place in the provided accommodation, it is best to apply early as you need to fill out a housing application to get on the list. 

If you are unsuccessful, you will be put in touch with others who do not have accommodation provided and usually they end up renting a house together and we will put you onto our partners for that. Every year everyone finds a place to stay.
