Ever bought someone the best Christmas present, and Christmas day all you could think about was their face lighting up when they opened it? It feels good to give and it can have a huge effect on you. Research by the ‘United Health Group’ found that the majority of participants felt mentally and physically healthier after a volunteer experience.

76% of people said that volunteering made them feel healthier
94% said volunteering improved their mood
96% said that volunteering enriched their sense of purpose in life

Participants also said that it improved their mood and self esteem!

It Helps You Live Longer!

Not only that, but volunteering could be helping people live longer! A study by the University of Exeter Medical School, analysed data from 40 studies and found that volunteers had a 20% lower risk of death!

It Makes You Feel Good.

There is actual science behind giving back. Feel good hormones like serotonin, oxytocin, endorphins and dopamine may be released when a person sees a direct positive result from their good deeds.

Decreases Depression.

Volunteering increases social interaction and builds a support system based on common commitment and interests - which can decrease depression.

Increases Brain Functioning

A study released by John Hopkins University revealed that volunteers increased their brain functioning, by getting moving and thinking at the same time, while volunteering.

Reduces Stress.

Volunteering gives you a sense of meaning and appreciation, which is calming and helps relieve stress. It gives the volunteer a purpose and enriches their lives by enriching others.
