Finding Your Perfect Overseas Experience!

Finding Your Perfect Overseas Experience!

Author -  Pops

With so many experiences on offer, it can be overwhelming trying to figure out exactly what you want to do. We want you to get the most out of your trip away, so here are some top tips and things to think about, before you start booking an Overseas Experience!

1. Follow Your Passion

Love animals, children, snowboarding? We have a variety of different projects that will suit your passion! If you love working with wildlife, why not volunteer at a Wildlife Sanctuary in Africa, or love photography and animals, you can do a photography course at a Wildlife Sanctuary and combine the two! Or maybe working with children is more your bag, why not Aupair in America, or work at a children’s summer camp in the US? Want more adrenaline for your overseas experience? Why not work for a year in Canada and hit the slopes?

2. Where Do You Want to Explore?

Think about not only what country you want to explore, but where you can really feel like a local! Are you itching to get to the beach? Want to see some snow? Or escape to a national park? We have projects all over the world to suit everyone! Locations we can send you include: America, Asia, Africa, Canada, the UK and South America!

3. How can you use your skills, or gain some vital experience?

If you’re studying to be a teacher why not gain some real experience with children, working at a summer camp, aupairing, or even teaching abroad in Thailand, Nepal, Fiji, or even Sri Lanka! Or maybe you want to be a vet and want experience working with animals? Why not choose one of our wildlife projects like the ‘Wildlife Veterinary Experience’ in Namibia?

4. What kind of difference do you want to make?

Want to make a difference on your overseas experience? We have so many projects for you to to volunteer on, where you can really make a difference. Whether your passionate about saving the ocean, or want to help endangered species, there is an endless list of projects that can really help. Why not work at an orphanage in South Africa, or volunteer for the sailing and ocean clean up project in Fiji.

5. Do you love being in a big group or would you prefer to be part of a smaller team?

No matter what project you do, you’re going to meet some amazing people with similar interests to you and you’re going to make friends for life. Think about whether you want to be part of a smaller team, such as our Hawaii Wildlife Sanctuary, or a larger group like our Namibia project.

6. Choose to Suit Your Budget

Keep in mind the costs of flights, and different programme fees as each project has it’s own expenses to take into consideration. For example, the Rhino orphanage has higher programme fees, due to the cost of security, not to mention the cost of feeding and caring for the rhinos. Where as Aupairing in America, you get pocket money, food and accommodation!

7. Do you want to mix up your trip with more than one project or include a few touristy weeks as well?

You can mix and match your overseas experience to add on extra weeks, and get even more out of your time away! Why not add on our Cape Town add on and get a week exploring everything Cape Town has to offer, or why not add on a weeks yoga retreat in Bali? Or even spend four days visiting the Kruger National Park.

8. What do you want to get out of your Overseas Experience?

Really think about what you want to get out of your trip. Do you want to make a difference and volunteer, do you want a cultural exchange experience like a ranch stay where you’ll get stuck into a working farm? Or are you wanting to have more of a holiday like the Asia Eat, Pray, Love, experience? Or maybe you just want to live like a local in London? There are so many options available to you, so really think about what you want to gain from your experience and how you want to spend your time abroad!
