My China Road Trip with Pandas

My China Road Trip with Pandas

Author -  Daniel Moore

Daniel recently did the China Road Trip which includes a week with the endangered Giant Pandas.

Here's what he told us on his return to New Zealand.

China is a country that I've never really learnt a lot about or know anyone that has been there, so what better way to learn about Chinas culture than to spend a month there.

As soon as I read the itinerary on the website I was super pumped about the trip.

It was my first overseas trip and to go alone was all the more nerve wrecking, but I was also incredibly excited. But everyone in the group felt the same so I pretty much got over my nerves very quickly.

My favourite part was volunteering in the panda base and being able to work up and close with the Panda's. I got to learn so much about the pandas and how they are trying to save the Panda's. As an added bonus we got to help teach the keepers some English which was fun.

The most challenging thing was overcoming the language barrier. Trying to buy anything from a shop was very difficult but usually the Chinese are super helpful even when you cant speak the language.

I'm most proud of myself of being able to do something completely out of my comfort zone. Being able to overcome this is just the best experience ever. We also learnt some calligraphy and wrote our names in Mandarin

It is such an amazing experience to learn the culture in China. I've made many new friends and learnt to appreciate the culture so much more.
