5 Things we Love about Canada

Canada is an amazing country. If you’ve never been, it should definitely be added to your bucket list. Don’t believe us? Check out our blog below and get inspired! If you’re super pumped after reading, we can help you plan a working holiday or volunteer adventure in beautiful Canada.

Wildlife

Canada is known for its diverse wildlife which includes beavers, moose, black and grizzly bears, wolves, bobcats, badgers, otters and much more. With a vast amount of landscape, Canada is the perfect place for hiking and wildlife watching. No matter what time of year you’re travelling, venture into the wilderness and you’re bound to see some unique animals.

If you want to tick off a lifetime event, pay Canada a visit during Christmas time to see actual reindeer in the flesh. #goals

Slopes

If you’re into skiing then Canada’s probably on your list already. The country is renowned for its incredible slopes, with a huge variety of difficulties and snow depths. British Columbia is a must-visit, with the extraordinary Whistler and Blackcomb mountains providing 16 alpine bowls and over 200 marked runs between them.

Check out Fernie while you’re there – its powder skiing is world-famous. Other places to hit the slopes include Banff in Alberta, Mount Tremblant in Quebec and Blue Mountain in Ontario. There are dozens more, too, but these are the biggest and the best.

Scenery

Canada hands-down has some of the most stunning scenery in the world. The country boasts over 30 beautiful National Parks, including the famous Banff and Jasper. It’s also home to The Rocky Mountains, in which the highest peaks in central North America sit. If you’re a fan of lakes, you’ll want to head to Northern British Columbia to check out the Nechako Lakes District, which contains six stunning lakes.

Oh, and don’t forget the majestic Niagra Falls, located on the border of Ontario, Canada and New York, United States. Still not convinced? Just Google Lake Louise, then get back to us…

Citylife

International Working Holidays Canada cities.jpg

There are tons of great cities in Canada where you can easily spend weeks exploring alone. A trip to the country isn’t complete without visiting Vancouver, British Columbia. A leader in sustainability and environmentalism, Vancouver has frequently been named one of the top 5 cities in the world for livability.

It’s known for its large seaport and buzzing film industry, as well as its various gardens. Canada’s most populated city, Toronto, Ontario is another must-see. This busy metropolis is a hub for music, arts and television. Other amazing cities to visit include Montreal, Quebec and Calgary, Alberta, both of which sit on stunning rivers.

Food

Canadian cuisine is to die for. Most people rightly associate Maple Syrup with Canada, which was first collected by indigenous North Americans by tapping Maple trees with drilling holes. You won’t find a Maple Syrup better than the pure Canadian sort! Other sweet treats include Beaver Tails, AKA fried flattened donuts without the hole in the middle.

There are plenty of delicious savoury foods, too – ever heard of Poutine? If fries covered in gravy and cheese curds sounds like your kind of snack then this alone is reason to travel to Canada. Last but not least, there’s Montreal bagels, which are thinner and sweeter than the famous New York variety and baked in a wood-fired oven. Deeelish.
