Who is eligible to apply?

This program is open to anyone who meets the working holiday visa entry requirements for the UK (Tier 5). Also those that don't need a visa to work in the UK like British passport holders or those eligible for an Ancestry Visa. You must be 18 or over and speak English.

Do I need a visa?

Yes, you need a Working Holiday Visa. This is now referred to as the Youth Mobility Scheme for the UK. You must be aged between 18 and 30 inclusive to apply for a visa and be an Australian or New Zealand passport holder with a minimum 36 month validity. You can ask us about our Visa Program, or apply online direct with the BHC. The visa fees are not included in this program.

To be eligible for the UK Youth Mobility Scheme you must:

  • be an NZ or Australian citizen
  • be aged between 17 and 30
  • want to go to the UK for an extended holiday, and intend to take employment as part of your holiday for no more than 24 months during your stay
  • not intend to set yourself up in or run a business, or work as a professional sportsperson during your stay
  • be single, or that you are married to, or the civil partner of someone who also qualifies as a working holidaymaker and you plan to take the working holiday together
  • not have any dependent children
  • be able to support yourself in the UK without needing any help from public funds
  • not have spent time in the UK on a previous working holidaymaker visa, and
  • intend to leave the UK at the end of your holiday.

What sort of work will I be able to get?

The UK work program offers a great variety and selection of jobs and opportunities that are selected to specifically to suit the working holiday maker. Positions are mainly entry level and semi skilled positions where candidates can start working immediately.

  • Call Centres- In bound and out bound campaigns for major blue chip clients
  • Catering - work in 5* banqueting and conference venues in central London part time or permanent
  • Bars and restaurants - work in London Restaurants
  • Hotels and hospitality - work in carefully selected exclusive hotels in and around London
  • Airports - Work in restaurants and retail outlets at all London airports - referencing required
  • Sales and marketing - direct sales positions for the money driven candidates
  • Furniture installations - work in teams installing office furniture in London
  • Construction - Work on London construction sites in your trade or as general labour
  • Railways and LUL - Work in railway maintenance teams - night shifts - good money

Can I specify a particular position that I want to apply for?

No, not from the start. Our job guarantee program encourages everyone to start in the available position at that time, to ensure a cash flow and to have time to settle in. We will always make sure that positions are only offered to suitable candidates. New opportunities are constantly available and the demand in different markets also fluctuates constantly.

Can I get interview advice and assistance?

YES - This is included in our package. Our partner in the UK is a specialist in this field, and devote as much time as needed on the preparation of candidates for interviews an the working environment in the UK.

The biggest part of the UK orientation and information sessions are devoted to the recruitment and interview processes in the UK.

There are also client specific info sessions for each and every group before they go into an interview with a specific client to ensure that the candidates know exactly what to expect on the day.

What kind of people are we looking for?

We are looking for anyone over the age of 18 that wants to visit the UK on a working holiday experience. We are looking for people that are hungry for adventure and experience that would appreciate the opportunity to live in London and travel the UK and Europe and earn £ sterling at the same time. We are also looking for those individuals that want to make use of the working holiday opportunity to identify career opportunities in the UK.

Can I go with a friend or partner?

YES - It is sometimes easier to travel with a partner

You will be experiencing so much during your working holiday and it is always great to share these once in a lifetime moments with someone close to you.

The program is also very popular among young couples that want to experience the world while earning and saving money to start their future together

What happens if I am not offered a job?

If you are not working within 7 working days of registering at the London Office, you will be paid £30 per day for each working day that you are not working after that initial 7 working day period.

What if I am offered a position I don't want?

With the 7 day job guarantee program we aim to have a big enough pool of jobs to ensure that we place everyone in a job that they will be happy with. It is sometimes necessary to start in a job that might not be your first choice until your preferred position becomes available.

You can also decide to wait for a position of your choice if this is lined up for a certain date, however, if this falls outside of the 7 day period you will have to accept and agree to the terms thereof.

Do I need to have experience in a particular industry?

You do not need experience at all, we made sure that we have positions available to suit almost anyone. Previous work experience in any industry will certainly be beneficial, sometimes not in the beginning when you just arrive, but certainly later on.

What temperatures can I expect in the UK?

Britain is effectively an island, so it does not experience any extreme weather conditions, and temperatures does not fluctuate greatly from day to night.

Summer weather is very pleasant as it does not get extremely hot, and the days are very long in summer, to allow more than enough time for BBQs and fun stuff. Temperatures between 20 and 30 Celsius

Winter days are shorter and the rainfall is quite high. Snow is not very common in built up areas like London, but it does snow at least once every winter in London so you have a chance of experiencing a white Christmas in London. Temperatures between 0 and 17 Celsius

Will I need to buy a car?

You will not need a car if you live in the UK. London has one of the best underground train systems in the world and the entire UK is served with some kind of public transport. This ranges from Trains, underground trains, Buses, trams, boats, taxis etc. You can also hire a car from us in the UK.

What uniform is required?

Any required uniform would be offered to you in the UK or in some cases supplied by the employer. We will advise you to bring the following clothes with you:

    * Black trousers or skirt
    * Black leather shoes
    * White collared shirt (tie for men)

England and especially London is quite formal, so business dress are expected for any and all interviews

What is the policy of the employers towards piercings, dyed hair, dreadlocks, etc?

Although London is a very cosmopolitan and open minded place, many employers would prefer that their staff are neat and presentable when working. This is especially true in customer services and customer facing positions where facial piercings and outrageous hair might be a problem.

This is not the case for any and all positions that we have available, but the option list would be narrowed slightly for these.

What do I do when I arrive in the UK?

Once you arrive un the UK, follow the travel directions provided on your booking confirmation to Egoli's London office. You can either head straight to the office from the airport (call ahead), or you can settle into your digs first and arrange an appointment later that week.

If you arrive outside of normal business hours or on a UK public holiday you should follow the instructions on your booking confirmation. In a case like this, admin and paperwork will be done the next working day.

What will happen at the offices in the UK?

When you go to your first meeting at our partner's offices in London, the following will happen:

  • they will go through all the relevant paperwork, check everything is in order and forms completed
  • you will receive all the goodies included in your arrival pack
  • you will be shown how to use your UK SIM card in international call card
  • the paperwork for your bank account will be prepared
  • you will be booked in for the next orientation meeting and receive the pack
  • you will be booked in for your face to face assessment with an recreuitment consultant
  • You will open up your UK bank account at the local branch of Lloyds TSB (3 min walk)

What is the Orientation Meeting?

This is an information session where we give you the basic knowledge and need-to-know information that you only learn by experience. We cover:

    * Job assistance, interview tips and preparation for UK workplace
    * Info on NHS registration and medical centres
    * Basic tax information and N.I. application
    * Transport and communication
    * Basic streetwise knowledge
    * Religion and social life
    * and lots more & we want you to be prepared for anything...

We give you a document with all the information that we discussed with you and this will also include important number lists and a list of useful websites and e-mail addresses. Candidates find this very useful as a manual to refer back to at a later stage

Will I have access to the internet when I am there?

Yes, you will have access to free internet to use at your leisure at our partners London office.

What positions are available?

How long are you expected to work?

You would generally be expected to work in a position for at least 12 weeks. Although this is not a rule or a law, this will benefit you more than anyone else, as you will get a good reference and you would have had enough time to settle into a job and gain valuable experience and stability

What is the average wage?

Minimum wage in London from the 1st of October 08 is £5.65. Pay rates start from £6.00 and £6.50 per hour and goes up to £8.50 to £9.00 per hour for general jobs. Expect to earn upwards of £250 per week. Trades and skilled positions pay between £9.00 and £15.00 per hour. Expect to earn £450 + per week.

Positions in sales and marketing that offer a basic wage plus commission offer earning potential in excess of £1000 per week

How many hours a week will I work?

This is depends on the position you accept. If you are in a temp to permanant position for instance in a call centre, you will be required to work the office ours set out by the employer. This is usually 37.5 hours per week however, almost all temp to permanant positions offer and encourage overtime that increase the pay rates greatly.

If you are in a contracting position that you work shifts on an hourly basis, you can determine how many hours you work by accepting only the shifts that you want to work.

What about long term accommodation?

We provide flats with;

  • Affordable rents- rooms in a shared house are generally cheaper than a hostel
  • You have all the benefits and luxuries of living in a big house while only renting a room
  • No long term commitment - only 2 weeks notice required to move out
  • Small capital outlay - only 2 weeks bond required and rent is payable weekly
  • All inclusive - your room rent includes all bills and other facilities supplied at the property
  • Social life - you share with likeminded people so there is always social interaction.
  • Home away from home - all houses are set up with living areas

Will I get free-time?

You will be living and working in the city of London so every second that you are not working will be your free time and the world will be your oyster.

When should I apply for the program?

The 7 day job guarantee for London is not seasonal in any way and bookings are accepted all year round. Jobs are also available all year round. As the visa takes up to 3 months to process, it is recommended that you apply for both programs at the same time.

Will I need to take out travel insurance?

Whilst the UK and Australia offer reciprocal health care benefits, travel insurance is strongly encouraged for those eventualities not covered, including your personal items and coverage whilst travelling in Europe. We can help you choose the right insurance - usually just to cover you getting to the UK and the first couple of weeks.

Should I book my flights with International Working Holidays?

Yes, we can offer you access to our cheap youth and working holiday airfares. We can organise your flights for you and find you the best deals at no extra charge.

How about tours and accommodation?

You will be spoilt with choice when it comes to tours and travel opportunities in the UK and Europe. Please consult with our travel department for more information.

How do I get started?
