Who qualifies for UK Ancestry Visa?

In order to obtain a UK Ancestry Visa you need to meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a valid New Zealand or Australian passport
  • Aged 17 or over
  • Have a grandparent who was born in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man
  • Have a grandparent who was born in what is now the Republic of Ireland prior to 31 March 1922
  • Are able to work and intend to take or seek employment in the UK
  • Have $6000NZD savings available to you
Please note you must have available all original birth certificates (including that of your grandparent you are applying through and connecting parent). If you are applying through your grandmother, you may be required to provide a marriage certificate if there has been a name change. You will also be required to attend a biometrics appointment in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.

How the service works?

You will be assigned a personal Visa Consultant who will advise you what documentation you need to collate. Once your completed documentation is received by your Visa Consultant they will then complete the online application for the visa with the British High Commission on your behalf.

Finally, they will book your biometric appointment and ensure that you have all the correct documentation prior to lodgement. Your Visa Consultant will be on hand throughout the entire process to provide you with all the guidance and support you need.

How long will the process take?

The overall time frame will depend entirely on the British High Commission (who do experience delays from time-to-time). Generally an Ancestry Visa is approved within 2-4 weeks, but we still recommend that you leave between 6 – 8 weeks for the entire visa process. The British High Commission recommends that you do not book your flights prior to your visa being approved.

What happens after five years?

After four years you will be eligible to apply for permanent residence provided you continue to meet the requirements of the Rules for United Kingdom Ancestry and you have spent a continuous period of four years in employment in the UK in this capacity. You can get more information about applying for permanent residence from the Immigration and Nationality Directorate.

What is the cost?

Our service fee is only $550. Please note that the government application fee is not included in this figure and is an additional charge you must pay directly to the British High Commission.
