ORIENTATION

When you arrive you attend a four day Orientation Near New York (Stamford, Connecticut)

Au Pair in America understands the importance of making sure that you are prepared for your unique experience in America. Ever since we were established in 1986, Au Pair in America has provided a comprehensive four day residential training course carefully organised by our experienced and professional U.S. training team.

You will be collected from the airport and taken to your hotel. Accommodation and three meals a day are provided and you will have opportunities for sightseeing and making friends with other au pairs. The programme ends in the afternoon of the fourth day to allow you to travel to your host family that evening. The hotel is currently the Holiday Inn Select - check it out online.

By the time your Orientation is over, we hope you will travel to your family feeling confident and well prepared for the year ahead.

Your four day Orientation will include:

Day 1

Your arrival, welcome and introduction to the programme.

Day 2

You will be part of discussions about cultural differences, life in the U.S., expectations of American host families and instruction in child development.

Day 3

You will participate in a day long infant/child care safety course taught in part by instructors from the American Red Cross.

Day 4

You will participate in interesting discussions about experiences likely to arise during your stay and learn valuable information about how to make the most of your year in America.

It's just the little differences that make the cultural changes obvious. Orientation helps you prepare for these.

"I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate all you did to get me set up over here. I don't think I could have ended up with a better family. I'm getting on with them so well and loving the children to bits. They are an Indian family so I'm learning to speak Hindi, which I'm finding so much fun. I'm sure I'll have a great year, I've only been here for a few weeks but I can't imagine leaving already." Rachel from Auckland.
