1. What were your reasons for applying as an au pair?
My reason was having the opportunity to travel and to experience a new culture
2. Tell us about your host family:
There are 4 children Boys- 5,3,2 and a baby girl, 4months, 4 cats and 2 dogs!!
3. Describe the area you live in:
Connecticut, well the best think about CT is its only an housr out of New York, I find you have to travel a distance to get anywhere but thats because I live in Easton in the woods
4. What did you study and why did you choose the course?
Sociology of the family, volunteer work at a school and 2 weekend courses,
5. Tell us about any travelling you have done or are planning to do:
I have been to Boston, Las Vegas, South Carolina, Florida, Los Angeles, and New York
6. Have you considered joining a tour? If so, which one?
Trek America
7. What have you gained during the year?
WOW I have gained alot, i have grown as a person, learnt so much about America, their culture, the people, so much.
8. What has been the best experience so far?
To becoming a part of another family, now I can call them my second family
9. How have you been spending you pocket money?
clothes!!!! holidays, socialising!!! and of course saving as much as I can
10. If there was one thing that we could have told you about being an au pair to better prepare you for your year, what is it?
Nothing really you have to learn it yourself, not everything in life should be prepared, but it is hard work
11. What did you find most challenging about being an au pair?
Getting the kids to accept you, for the first month it was hard, but now its great, getting homesick is always hard
12. Write a short message to applicants thinking about joining Au Pair in America:
Becoming an Au Pair has opened my eyes to a whole different world, I have grown as an individual, made lots of new friends, traveled to places I never thought I would visit, and had an experince I will never forget.
